Understanding Eductors

Eductors mainly operate with the help of pressure energy which is found within the high pressure motives liquid to the pump, compress or entrain the secondary fluid of low pressure. How the educator works is quite straight forward and could be summarised as below: High pressure fluid passes through the specifically shaped nozzle that helps in increasing the velocity of fluid and decreases the pressure of fluid. By passing motive fluid across the nozzle, the energy of static pressure within that fluid converts into the kinetic energy that helps in increasing the velocity of fluid and also reduces static pressure. The process if called venture effect. As high velocity streaming exists the orifice nozzle, at the maximum velocity point, vena contracta, the area for low pressure generates. This area of low pressure is almost equal to or maybe less than secondary low pressure fluids, suction fluid thereby permitting it to easily e...

Uses Of Educators

It’s been reported several times that on the screw chillers that use Eductors for the oil return, while operating at a low load condition it looks like the educator doesn’t efficiently operate enough for returning the oil to oil separator or the sump for maintaining the level of oil. It then causes the chillers to completely shut down on the low oil, a result of retained oil in refrigerant charge in evaporator. For this type of chillar that employs educator for returning oil, the main cause of failure might not be the low load but a low lift. In a comfortable and cool environment, the chiller load could be responsive to the temperature outdoor. This is when it’s very hot outside but the heat flows into building rapidly and the chiller load becomes high. Cool temperature When the temperature outside is cool, little heat is required to be removed from conditioned space and thus the load of the chillar is also low. This low load of chillar is accompanied by low lift conditions...
